Did Harry and Meghan Have Food Trucks at Their Wedding?

MG_0739 Did Harry and Meghan Have Food Trucks at Their Wedding?

You may be surprised by the answer…

In the United States, the food truck industry is expected to be valued at close to a billion dollars by 2020, and their overall popularity isn’t much different in the U.K. In both regions, this form of fast and friendly food service is likely to spike even higher after the recent royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (now officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex).

The much anticipating royal shindig took place on May 19th, 2018 and was notable for its deviation from traditional royal weddings. At no point was this more evident than in the appearance of food trucks at the royal wedding.

Wait… food trucks? Yes. Food trucks.

After the pomp and circumstance, the reception was raging and royals needed fuel to keep the party going, just like the rest of us! Of course, these weren’t just any old food trucks, but ice cream food trucks. (They also served up cotton candy and sliders–American style!)

There was still a more formal dinner at the reception, naturally, however the food trucks rolled up later in the evening, once guests had likely worked up an appetite from all that dancing.

Surprisingly, food trucks have been incorporated with royal events in the past. Back in 2011, William and Kate also had food trucks at their wedding reception, which served up bacon and sausage sandwiches, as well as ice cream.

However, given the modernity of the royal wedding, and the renowned humbleness and groundedness that the princes were raised with, it’s no surprise that these millennial-aged royals opted to go with one of the most popular wedding trends of this generation.

In fact, according to Inside Weddings, real-world trends frequently bleed over into the wedding trend category. Food trucks are showing up at weddings the world over thanks to their convenience and adaptability in terms of the types of cuisine they can serve–which ranges from casual eats, to fast food, to gourmet snacks.

So how can you get a food truck at your wedding or next big party? Here are some pro tips to keep in mind:

  • Make your venue has space for the trucks and allows outdoor catering.
  • Correlate the number of trucks with the number of guests (1-2 trucks should satisfy a party of less than 150 guests.
  • Add a touch of variety with food trucks that each serve up a different type of food.
  • Keep the menu short in order to keep the lines moving along.
  • Depending on the type of wedding your hosting, food trucks might be more suitable for a surprise late night snack versus serving the actual dinner itself, as they won’t blend in well with an uber-formal event.

Between the rise of the food truck empire and their landmark appearances at such highly public events like royal weddings, there appears to be no end in sight for this ever-growing and fun trend. Are you hungry yet?
