7 Social Media Tricks for Food Truckers {and 1 That No One Will Tell You}

Social media supplies great power when used correctly. Of course, it’s a given that social media has the power to lift a food truck towards profit; however, there’s one trick no one uses.

Trick 1 – Facebook Check-ins

Posting in a regular Facebook feed where the truck will be this week is great. However, asking customers to check in and rate the food truck that day can make a huge difference. Not only is it gathering social proof, but it also shows where the truck is today.

Trick 2 – Tweet Regularly

While it may sound easy to just tweet out locations, tweeting throughout the day keeps the truck at the top of the Twitter feed. Try adding photos of the day’s menu or specials for extra attention.

Trick 3 – Keep an Instagram Feed

Even on a day off, the food truck can still be going. For example, posting food pictures, sharing what people have said in reviews, and including the next location the truck will be at are all ideas for off-day posts. Showing people what they crave means the truck will be at the top of their mind come lunch time. Bonus for doing the same with a Facebook feed.

Trick 4 – Give an Inside View

People are curious, so give them what they want. Having a YouTube channel or using IGTV lets the food truck post videos of things like how the truck works, what happens in the kitchen space, cool drives, and so on. This insider view will entice die-hard fans and spark more interactions, leading to more sales. This can also be done using a Stories function in Facebook and Instagram.

Trick 5 – Claim Your Google+

Google+ can be used to manage the information that pops up in a Google search. Things like a website and a phone number are vital links to consumers, and this is one more way to get them to customers.

Trick 6 – Yelp + Trip Adviser Reviews

It’s a little more difficult to set up an account without a constant address, but do not despair. People love a detailed Yelp review, and loyal followers will be happy to supply them. In turn, those reviews bring more people to the food truck.

Trick 7 – Smile!

Wherever on the web the customers are, be there. Since social media tends to be visual, including lots of photos, from happy customers (with permission) to the crew after a long day cooking up soul food makes a difference.
