5 Inventive Ways to Use Your Mobile Food Truck

When you own a mobile food truck, you might not need to use it all the time. Instead of just parking it in your driveway, you could rent it out to someone else. You could also consider alternative items to sell from it on your own. Consider these five inventive ways to use your food truck.

1. Sell Sundries at Festivals

Many people enjoy going to festivals. The festival grounds typically allow camping overnight, so some people will stay for the duration of the event. It’s possible they’ll run out of something or forget what they need at home. Consider taking your food truck to festivals and selling essentials, such as individual, sealed doses of ibuprofen, travel-size toothpaste and other types of hygiene and healthcare products.

2. Provide Refreshments at the Beach

From the spring break season through Labor Day, America’s beaches are busy. Consider taking your food truck to a popular beach during spring break, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor day or weekends. Fill it up with ice-cold drinks, such as bottled water, sparkling water, soda, fruit juice, tea and lemonade. You could add other items to your inventory, such as bottles or cans of sunscreen, hand sanitizer, swim diapers and other items people might run out of during their visit.

3. Offer Gift Wrapping

During the busy holiday season, shopping centers will be packed. You could set up your food truck in the parking lot, but you don’t necessarily have to sell food. You could offer a gift-wrapping service to people who just don’t have the time or talent to wrap the gifts they just purchased. You’d only need tissue paper, tape, ribbon and a few colors or patterns of wrapping paper for inventory.

4. Peddle Flowers at Special Events

Is there a large college or university in your area? Consider stocking your food truck with flowers to peddle. Families of new graduates might be willing to buy flowers and other small gifts to give to the new graduate. Some other items to consider include stuffed animals, boxes of candy and items that will keep guests comfortable while they attend the ceremony.

5. Hawk Craft Supplies

Every year in the spring and autumn, arts and crafts fairs take place all over the USA. Consider loading your food truck with craft supplies to sell at one of these events. If you’re not up for vending food during the fair, you could sell items that people could use to make their own arts and crafts. Some options include grab bags of art supplies for mixed media projects or art kits that contain everything a person would need to make sand art, a small painted ornament, embroidered cushion or a wall hanging. You could even go upscale and sell hand-dyed yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks and related notions that a person would use to knit or crochet a gift.
