There are alot of pretenders out there, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is! Sure they can build you a mobile kitchen cheap, but make NO mistake about it, the COST you will pay right after receiving it will be high! Higher in repairs, bringing it to your local codes, and the liabillity of workers getting injured working in your CHEAP kitchen. Not to mention replacing components, and LOSS of your good reputation when your break down keeps you from attending an event. NOT SO CHEAP anymore is it?
ALL TRUCKS AND TRAILERS BOUGHT OR USED IN CALIFORNIA MUST BE MADE BY A "STATE OF CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED" MANUFACTURER. WE ARE A "STATE OF CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED" MANUFACTURER. MANY MANUFACTURERS DO NOT MEET FEDERAL CODES. ALL MOBILE FOOD TRAILERS ARE REQUIRED TO MEET FEDERAL CODES IN ALL STATES !!! BEWARE OF MANUFACTURERS WHO TELL YOU THAT FEDERAL INSIGNIA DOES NOT APPLY!! Once you buy a trailer that doesn't meet Federal codes you will not be legal to use it. Most Health departments are aware of this and will ask you for the Insignia.
(Packaging bubble wrap insulation) Some Shady manufacturers are telling people that bubble wrap is "superior insulation" This simply is NOT true see below;
"Foil-faced bubble wrap "is not Energy Star or Manual D approved, and is generally viewed as snake oil by reputable builders." (Michael Chandler-Green Building Advisor) http://www.energyvanguard.com/blog-building-science-HERS-BPI/bid/29497/The-Foil-Faced-Bubble-Wrap-Sham-Understanding-Radiant-Barriers Senior editor Martin Holladay was next, picking up the "snake oil" theme and going on to say any claim that bubble wrap is the equivalent of R-6 duct insulation is a "scam and a fraud." He specifically cited a company called Reflectix, which makes a 5/16-inch thick material consisting of bubble-wrap plastic between layers of reflective material. "According to ASTMC518 tests commissioned by Reflectix, the product has an R-valueof 1.04," Holladay wrote. "(Reflectix does not mention this R-value of 1.04 on its Web site; however, it can be found in a laboratory report available from the company on request.)" http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/blogs/dept/qa-spotlight/bubble-wrap-duct-insulation-good-idea
We do not do "cookie cutter" units. We will not build sub-standard units as our competitors do.
(Sub-standard units are a nightmare for the owner. They are an accident waiting to happen. They often are a fire hazard, improperly balanced, poorly (cheaply) built and can result in the injury or death of the operator.)
We manufacture to our customers specific codes and needs, and offer superior quality construction along with enhanced customer support.
CUT RATE MANUFACTURERS WILL PRICE YOU EXTREMELY LOW. Especially in these economic times. THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN DO THIS IS IF THEY ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS OR GIVING YOU A VERY LOW QUALITY DANGEROUS PRODUCT. They build sub-standard units.... and don't pay their vendors.... then go out of business!! You are left with a unit that doesn't pass codes, and soon no company to file suit against. What a NIGHTMARE!! What are you really getting for your money? It may LOOK like you are getting a good deal for your money, but you're NOT. What you WILL GET is very sub standard construction with unapproved materials, hazardous wiring, equipment strapped to the walls, pipes running across the walls, low quality insulation (if any, or packaging bubble wrap like above picture) exposed plumbing, non NSF equipment, incorrect dimensions, the wrong size sinks, wrong size water tanks, wrong size waste tanks, wrong size windows, wrong size water heater ( or an instant one that doesn't reach the health approved temperature) And maybe that's ok with you.
But the real problems come when you get your concession trailer home. You try to get your health approval and find out that they lied when they told you it would pass. (Some of them even tell you they called your health department. What good is that if they ask the wrong questions?)
These companies could care less when you get your trailer and the only way to make it pass code is to chop it and redesign it, of which the price is at least the difference between theirs and ours before you add the price of tear down.
Many Food Truck builders use Aluminum Diamond Tred Plate floors. Aluminum is a porous metal which retains and absorbs oil, dirt and grime. This is a slippery and dangerous floor in a kitchen environment. They will tell you that it has greater longevity, not true! Look at the picture below.
Basically it costs more to fix their trailer than if you had bought one that is manufactured correctly in the first place.
Besides the safety issues mentioned above;
If the unit doesn't pass codes you are in a whole new world of red tape. Note: the previous owner could show you papers where he was permitted last year or even this year, but many are grandfathered, which means that as soon as it changes owners you must bring it to the new codes. There are several governing agencies regarding these units. The way they work is like a crap shoot. You try to understand the codes… they are cross referenced to other codes, that you must also understand, and then you must know all the other agencies that have regulations regarding the construction of the unit. So you have to submit plans (very detailed plans) and wait 21 days (or more) to get a response, if something is wrong they tell you your (BLANK) doesn't pass. You then have to find out why it doesn't pass and IF you can fix it. Then you resubmitt plans, wait 21 or more days again, and they tell you the next thing that doesn't pass. etc………Until you run out of money and miss your events/ opportunities. Or if you are doing special events you are told at the beginning of the event that you don't pass and to get it out of there. Your reputation is shattered and getting more events is extremely hard with a bad reputation.
These images didn't match what THEY show on their website, or even what the customer saw when they visited their facillity, but it is what they got. (This customer and 7 others like him came to us in the same week asking us to FIX their units.) These fraudulent companies write the contract so that you can't refuse delivery without losing your trailer and your money.
We are the real deal, NOT a "Back Yard Builder"
Beware of "BACK YARD BUILDERS" Mapquest their location and see if they are a real company. It's easy to misrepresent on the internet.
